Clever High School Mascot Mural
This Arts Odyssey Residency allowed Clever High School summer school students to create a low relief mural for their school. Teaching artists coordinated with the art teacher to build a mosaic mural from the ground up. The mosaic was created using both fabricated material and found objects. Several techniques were used in the planning stages in order to build the elements within the piece, which include ceramic raku enamel on copper, and mirrors. The students designed a life size paper model of the mural, to scale paper models of the 3D elements as part of the planning process. The elements were grouted to panels then mural was hung in sections. Lastly, a final coat of grout was added to hide all seams and a frame was fabricated to finish the mural. The students held an art opening as part of their open house.
