Granby East Newton
Granby did a larger-scale project for an Arts Odyssey Residency, delivering the 4 mosaic planters to locations around town and planting flowers in them. The 7th and 8th grade art students worked in 4 teams to design and create mosaics on cast concrete planters. The planters were given as thank-you gifts to area businesses for their ongoing support of the Granby school. Art teacher Janice Patterson's family delivered the planters to recipients along with soil from their dairy farm to fill the planters. The school's Ag department provided a variety of flowering plants, grown by students in the school's greenhouse, to place in the planters. A district bus driver volunteered her time to drive the art students, Mrs. Patterson, and teaching artists Lillian Fitzpatrick and Cory Leick to the planter locations. Granby House (a skilled care facility), Granby Police Station, The Tree House, and Simple Simon's Pizza were the recipients of the planters.
